Annual Christmas Party
December 14, 2010 (replacing December monthly meeting)
Lydia Marconi’s Pool House (At rear of 173 Barton St., Marion)
The Delta Artists Society is a nonprofit organization of individuals joining together to encourage and interest in and an appreciation of the visual arts.
As previous mention in the November Newsletter, for our charitable project for this year, DAS members are asked to decorated and fell shoe box size boxes for residents of the 8th street Mission. Since the mission can house up to 41 men and 8 women, each DAS member is asked to decorate three boxes and to also purchase toiletry-type items to fill the boxes. ( Suggested items are: disposable razors, shaving cream, bars of soap, deodorant, combs, lotions, etc and also individually wrapped hard candy.)(Cold remedies and any products containing alcohol are not acceptable.) DAS will pay up to one-half of the price of the toilet items.) The Dollar Tree was mentioned as a good source of the toiletry items. Also, please bring a Christmas card to include in each box.
Members are asked to bring the decorated boxes and the purchased items to the Delta Arts Office at 3:00 on Sunday, December 5th, where the boxes will be filled. It should be designated on the “outside” of each box whether it is a suitable gift for a male or female recipient.
The filled boxes will be delivered to the 8th street mission in the time for Christmas.

Meeting Date: October 5, 2010
Meeting Time: 7:00 PM
Delta Arts Office
The Delta Artists Society is a nonprofit organization composed of individuals joining together to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the visual arts.
An announcement was made at the September meeting stating that the decision had been made by the Delta Arts Board to no longer provide funding for the Delta Artists Society, but that their facility could still be used to hold our monthly meetings.
This will also mean that the Annual Retreat will be cancelled. However, Clara Miller has contacted Tommy Ramer, from Evolve Bank of West Memphis, and they have agreed to sponsor the show. He will attend the show and present the awards at the reception. Caroline Redfern, of the West Memphis Library, will secure the judge for the show. Awards will be as follows:
Best of show - $100.00
First Place - $50.00
Second Place - $25.00
Third Place - $15.00
and Honorable Mention – Ribbon
Sherry Lovelady will print the awards list and notes from the judge.
Entries for the show will be received at the library from 4 until 6 on Friday October 8th. Entry fee is $5.00 per entry with no limited as to number of paintings entered per member.
Each entry must have two index cards attached to the back of the painting stating: title, medium, artist’s name, telephone number and price, if the art is for sale.
The reception will be held on Sunday, October 17th from 1-3. Members are asked to supply cookies for the reception. Presentation of awards will be made at this time.
PAINTIED HOUSES;
Hopefully, everyone has completed the work on the “block houses” by now. Please bring them to the next meeting as it has been arranged to show them as a group at the West Memphis Library in one of their glass enclosed cases.
HOSTESS, PROGRAM AND DOOR PRIZE:
Clara will serve as hostess and Sandy will provide the door prize. No program has been planned other than finalizing plans for the up-coming show.
OCTOBER BIRTHDAYS;
Happy birthday wishes to Marguerite Beene, who celebrates her birthday on October 18th and to Clara Miller, who celebrates hers on the 21st, and to Sherry Lovelady, who celebrates hers on the 11th.

Well, it was that time of the month again. Meeting time.
We were all sad to here that our out going president James was in the hospital.
So we had a informal meeting. Less structural than our normal meetings. So everyone was a little scattered with conversations popping everywhere.
Artist of the month , which was suggested by Bonnie last month, was choiced by a lottery. The lottery is for active members, mainly whomever is there at meetings.
Phyllis won the Artist of the month. Her picture and a painting will be posted here, our facebook page, and the Eveningtimes News paper soon.
Congratulations to our new officers for the 2010-2012.
Helen- Pres
Sara – Vice Pres
Clara – Treasurer
Sandy – Secretary
At the meeting Kaye brought our Membership Directory that she created. To find everyone go by the first names which is what everyone can remember.
Thanks Pat for supplying the door prizes and thanks Sara for the snacks.
Oh, by the way, the chair for the display committee was James. It was just because someone is needed.
