The Delta Artists Society is a nonprofit organization composed of individuals joining together to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the visual arts.
An announcement was made at the September meeting stating that the decision had been made by the Delta Arts Board to no longer provide funding for the Delta Artists Society, but that their facility could still be used to hold our monthly meetings.
This will also mean that the Annual Retreat will be cancelled. However, Clara Miller has contacted Tommy Ramer, from Evolve Bank of West Memphis, and they have agreed to sponsor the show. He will attend the show and present the awards at the reception. Caroline Redfern, of the West Memphis Library, will secure the judge for the show. Awards will be as follows:
Best of show - $100.00
First Place - $50.00
Second Place - $25.00
Third Place - $15.00
and Honorable Mention – Ribbon
Sherry Lovelady will print the awards list and notes from the judge.
Entries for the show will be received at the library from 4 until 6 on Friday October 8th. Entry fee is $5.00 per entry with no limited as to number of paintings entered per member.
Each entry must have two index cards attached to the back of the painting stating: title, medium, artist’s name, telephone number and price, if the art is for sale.
The reception will be held on Sunday, October 17th from 1-3. Members are asked to supply cookies for the reception. Presentation of awards will be made at this time.
PAINTIED HOUSES;
Hopefully, everyone has completed the work on the “block houses” by now. Please bring them to the next meeting as it has been arranged to show them as a group at the West Memphis Library in one of their glass enclosed cases.
HOSTESS, PROGRAM AND DOOR PRIZE:
Clara will serve as hostess and Sandy will provide the door prize. No program has been planned other than finalizing plans for the up-coming show.
OCTOBER BIRTHDAYS;
Happy birthday wishes to Marguerite Beene, who celebrates her birthday on October 18th and to Clara Miller, who celebrates hers on the 21st, and to Sherry Lovelady, who celebrates hers on the 11th.

DAS Meeting Sept 2010
The reading of the minutes were read at the meeting about what we all did in the last meeting in August.
Delta Arts gave back the dues the members paid at the July meeting. This money was placed in account. The reason why we were given back the due money is that we are no longer under the umbrella of the Delta Arts.
To most of the members is was a little shock but is was expected. The DAS really have not been included in Delta Arts events. Since the DAS is an independent entity this gives the group the freedom to do more in the community.
With the “kicking out” the DAS has gained a sponsor for the upcoming Members Show. This was a blessing and we do need more sponsors.
I suggested that since West Memphis is building a new information center that we should design postcards that could be sold there. Printing the postcard will be the responsibility of each artist and well worth the effort.
The annual fall retreat is on hold which again no problem to most of the members.
The Artist of the Month for September is Carroll Keys. His bio is to be written and placed in the Evening Times soon.
This is basically what went on at the meeting.
Delta Arts has given us the use of their building for our monthly meetings.
