Italian Fest in Marion, AR

Yall really missed a great day at the Italian Fest.  There were a lot of venders and cooks out there.

Of course, a few of us members were out there.  Carrel Keys, Kaye Simpson, Loretta Nash, Sandy Younger, and Helen Ramsey has a few pieces for sale.

Loretta Nash offered caricatures and got to sell one for a donation.

It was a nice day and not too hot like it was this summer.

The next event coming up for the DAS is a Clothesline Sale at Clara’s Studio in November.

Each artist in the DAS is an independent artist selling works of original art to the area.

Re-cap of April 2011 Meeting

Oh, we had some fun at the beginning of the meeting.  We at our normal meeting place only to be locked out.  It was a very confusing.  We had a key to the annex room only to be shut out because the room was being used as a tax preparer room.

It basically meant that we had to have our meeting elsewhere so we left and went to West Memphis’s Church of God to have our meeting.

The meeting was finally opened at 7:25 and the formality began.

Sandy read the minutes from the last meeting.

Clara gave her report on our finances.  Clara is looking for a free account to place our moneys into because our current bank is charging a fee for our account.

REPORT ON SARA

Sara is doing fine and the doctors say that they have got all the cancer.  Sara hopes to be back at the meetings soon.

Our primary art project is due at the May meeting.  Most of the 11 there said they were not ready yet.

DISPLAY

James is the coordinator and is looking for members who wish to have their own show at one of our ventures.  He did not have the list of where everyone was showing at just that Helen is showing at Marion Suntrust Bank.

We are no longer showing at the chamber of West Memphis.  They are remodeling and choose what the design wants.

We are hanging at Veanos Restaurant.

PROGRAM FOR APRIL

Clara gave the program on Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added.  Instead of using beeswax we used crayons.

Clara showed samples that she did for the demo.  There was a catfish on poster paper which was everyone’s favorite, an altered book, and a cd.

Each one of was created a piece using the crayons and the irons that Clara brought.  It made an interesting project for our art sale

RE-CAP March Meeting 2011

Tuesday, March1st, was the DAS monthly meeting at the Delta Arts Office at 7pm.

There were 11 members and one visitor in attendance.  The visitor came to join by being asked by James House to come.  She and a couple others are taking art classes at Mid-South Community College.

James is a member of the Master Gardner’s Club.

Helen formally opened the meeting with the reading of last months minutes read by Sandy Younger.  While reading the minutes Sandy jokily said that she could not read today which became contagious.

Clara was next to give her report on the finances. We are in the read with no outstanding debts.

After finishing her report, Clara gave a report of our sicken member Sara Bundy.  Clara stated that today Sara got to go home with her sister after a term of being sick.  Clara suggested that Sara would enjoy to receive a call from members and her cell number was given out.  There was also a get well card sent around for everyone there to sign for Sara.

OLD BUSINESS

“Who has their Crittenden County Landmark Finished?”

Hands went up through out the meeting hall.  Willie brought his painting to show by suggestion of Clara.  The painting is of the Marion Courthouse.  Willie said he would be finishing it by cleaning some places up otherwise it was finished.

“Has anyone started the primary painting?”  This time no one answered the question.  The painting is not due until our May meeting.

The primary painting has a limited color pallet of blue, yellow, red, white, and burnt umber.  Subjects in the painting are building/s, water and tree/s.

James jokily said that pure watercolorist don’t use white in their paintings.  He suggested that purple should be used instead,  I really believed that he just wanted to add another color to his pallet and no one really paid attention to the suggestion.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH RETURN

Helen stated that since we were not getting correct information published in The Evening Times about our artist of the month that she has postpone it for a while.

This did not mean that we have gave up on who are the artist of the months previous.  Carroll and James are to bring paintings and a small bio to class at Clara’s Studio to get ready for the publication.

APRIL’S MEETING

James volunteered to be host for our April Meeting.  Joan Rainey will be bring the door prize and Clara will present the program.

WE NEED NEW WORKS

The display’s have not changed.  It seems that every time that there is a plan to move the display it would rain or snow.  It is a possibility that next week that the display will change.

Bring your works to the next meeting.

Sandy suggested that we quietly opt the Chamber  on our display list.  “No one really sees it, “ said Sandy.  Two pieces are displayed in the lobby while the others are displayed in meeting rooms.

CLOTHESELINE ART SALE

Clara has offered to give her yard to a clothesline art sale for June 4th.  A clothesline art sale is were an artist artworks are displayed for sale.  Clara’s Studio is hosting the event.  If it rains, it will be rescheduled.

Bonnie hosted this meeting with a Greek salad, garlic bread and pistachio fluff.

Loretta won the door prize of a birdfeeder given by Sandy.

The Delta Artists Society is a nonprofit organization composted of individuals joining together to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the visual arts.

At the last meeting, a discussion was held regarding a charitable project for the coming year.
