Brush Strokes JUL2010

The Delta Artists Society is a non-profit organization composed of individuals joining together to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the visual arts.

The subject of the meeting time of the DAS monthly meeting was brought up and was discussed at the June meeting.  The fifteen members present, voted unanimously, to return to the previous meeting of 7 pm.

Our deepest sympathy is extended to Glenda Warren, for the loss of her daughter, Lynn Crowe, after a long illness.

July is the beginning of the DAS new fiscal year. The $10 annual dues may be paid at the July meeting.  (If you are unable to attend the meeting, dues may be mailed to the Delta Arts Council, 1800 N Missouri St, West Memphis, Ar 72301-1713)

Sara recently received an email from member, Jean Gipson, who had undergone major surgery 8 months ago.  She said that she was at home and doing "pretty good", and is able to "stay by herself".  This is good news and we are happy to hear that she is doing so well.

July Birthdays

Happy Birthday wishes to Jean Gipson, who will celebrate her birthday on the 7th, and to Lydia Marconi, who celebrates hers on the 23rd.

Sara will serve as hostess and Pat Davis will furnish the door prize.  As of writing, no program has been planned.

After Meeting June 1, 2010

We had our meeting again.

It became unanimous that we are changing out meeting time back to 7pm. It was a joyous explosion and a big relief.

The meeting was just the typical for what we have. There were only 9 members at the meeting and it was less formal that it has normally been.

We had our refreshments first while we held our meeting.

Helen and Phyllis brought salad (with both ranch and a raspberry vinaigrette), a chocolate cherry cake, and of course sodas.

In old business, everyone stated that they did not receive their “Brush Strokes” issue. The mailing was left up to the Delta Arts persons.

In new business, it is election time and due season. The dues are $10 and will be taken up at our next meeting in July.

The new officers have been talked to but there has not been an additional meeting for the old and new officers. New officers take the reigns at the July meeting and will hold office for the next 2 years.

We need more publicity! WE NEED MORE PUBLICITY! Was past around the meeting. Not many locals know that we do exist and who are the members.

It was suggested by Pat that we should have an “Artist of the Month” to be placed into the local newspapers.

A side note:

This is true. Not many of the artists know that there is a group like ours on this side of the river. Let along that there are others in Arkansas except for Little Rock and Jonesboro.

The DAS is giving a memorial for Lynne Crow (Glenda Warren daughter) to the museum in Earle.

Our program for July/August is going to be donated by Clara. We are going to create a village for the window of the Delta Arts Office.

James showed us his project from last month. He stated that he didn’t realize that too many of us tore the paper so squarely. He suggested that random tearing of the paper gives a more interest to the placement in the collage.

It is looking really abstract and looked a lot better with the blue sky as water. He took that suggestion and began to paint it as an impressionist painting.

More excitement from a DAS meeting is to come.

Brush Strokes Issue JUN2010

Meeting June 1, 2010 at the Delta Arts Office at 6pm

The Delta Artists Society is a non-profit organization composed of individuals joining together to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the visual arts.

The loss of the usual site for the DAS Annual Spring Show was discussed at the May meeting and a few alternate sites for next year were mentioned and the necessity for adequate security was addressed. As yet, no site has been selected.

Clara showed her “impressive” poster size photographs for the DAS field trip/photo shoot which were printed of Scott Lovelady of Lovelady Graphics in Marion. Those, along with the photos shot by other on the trip, will make an impressive and interesting “Crittenden County Landmark” display.

Loretta announced to the group, that she has designed a DAS blog, which can be accessed at deltaartistssociety.blog.com.

As June is the end of the DAS fiscal year, new sign-up sheets for host/hostess, programs, and door prizes will be circulated at the June meeting.

Happy Birthday wishes to Glenda Warren, who celebrates her birthday on June 27th.
